Synopsis

In today’s global climate, family members have learned that military separation has become common and deployments are the norm. Many are left to cope and deal with everyday problems and hardships by themselves which sometimes lead to loneliness and depression. Marc Maxwell, through his day to day counseling of military family members, realized that countless members of his military community were unprepared for the separation and needed a helping hand. Several individuals required a plan or a guide to help them get through their family members deployment. They needed something fun, easy to understand, and enjoyable. Maxwell discovered, to much surprise, that there were only books that discussed the issues of deployments, but nothing on the market that gave them everyday steps and activities that would help guide the family member through their trying times.

Surviving Military Separation is an activity guidebook created especially for family members of deployed personnel. Interestingly formatted, Surviving Military Separation has 365 days of activities for the family member to attempt. The activities are laid out seven at a time for 52 week sections. The book’s setup allows the reader the ability to break down the deployment into weeks instead of months which gives the family member a chance to take the deployment one step at a time.

Surviving Military Separation has a section for journal entries to help the reader communicate their thoughts and feelings. The guidebook also has a calendar section that will help family members remember important dates, as well as stationery to write their deployed personnel, and a world map that will help the family member locate their deployed loved one.

Surviving Military Separation was written by a Department of Defense Guidance Counselor and veteran of the U.S. military especially for family members of deployed personnel. No one should go through a military separation without having this book.
